Antony Smith, better known by his stage/producer name "Antsmif" is an award-winning composer and sound designer. He works with a wide range of artists and film makers bringing their film projects to life through music and sound.
Ants is a multi-instrumentalist and has toured the globe with a number of live acts including kiwi band Salmonella Dub. He combines his skills from stage to studio making pictures sing.

Antony Smith, better known by his stage/producer name “Antsmif” is a Kiwi musician, singer/song writer and producer. He has worked on projects for a range of high profile artists and film makers including Jane Campion (Top of The Lake), Nick Gianniopolis (Kings of Mykonos), Stephan Elliott (Horizon) and is best known for his work with NZ bands Salmonella Dub and Bongmaster.
Ant’s career began in Wellington, NZ in 94’ when he co-founded OMW (Original Music Workshop) to record and produce local bands.
Between 95’-98’ he learned the art of post engineering for the advertising sector working at various studios including Padded Cell, Flax Wax Digital and Marmalade.
In 1999 he turned his attention back to music and co-produced, recorded and mixed for some of the country’s most acclaimed Kiwi artists such as Bongmaster (a group made up of members from Fat Freddy’s Drop, Trinity Roots, and AhoriBuzz). During this period he also worked alongside Aaron Tokona, Iain Gordon and Rueben Sutherland on Lago (Live Ambient Graphic Opera) a performance fusing classic orchestral and modern electronic music synchronised with state of the art visuals.
Ants moved to Australia in 2002 to pursue his career in film, television as well as the music scene and began working with some of Australia’s leading artists and filmmakers. He recorded, mixed and produced the sound track for the hit movie Kings of Mykonos and music edited and re-recorded tracks for the popular TV drama series’ “Packed to the Rafters” and “Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries”.
In 2004 he creatively partnered with reggae/hip hop artist David Heta (aka Kye) and wrote the albums “Bootlegger”, “Cultivated Minds” “Innasences” and “Nomadic Souls”. It was during the launch of Bootlegger where he started collaborating with NZ band Salmonella Dub and began making regular appearances on stage as they toured Australasia performing vocals, saxophone, keyboards and guitar. Ants was brought into the studio to help record, produce and write alongside band members Andrew Penman, David Deakins, Pete Wood and Mark Tyler.
In 2008 Ants founded the studio Smith and Western Sound in Sydney, Australia. Among writing and producing multiple award-winning music for ads, he worked with director Jane Campion music editing for the critically acclaimed award-winning TV series Top of the Lake, co-composed and produced with Amanda Brown (former member of Go Betweens) on TV drama Wonderland, co-wrote for TV drama Horizon directed by Stephan Elliott (Priscilla Queen of the Desert) and composed and produced on adventurer/filmmaker Tim Noonan’s BBC documentary “Boy to Man”. He also co-composed the score for LA based director Ben West’s award winning short films “Fugu and Tako” and “Other Half”.
